About Department

The department of Political Science in the university is a new department established in 2008. The department is dedicated to promote teaching and research in the emerging fields of political science like public policy and governance, comparative politics, international relations and human rights while maintaining the scholarship in some of the conventional fields like political thought, political philosophy etc. The department has six teachers and around fifty students. Since its inception, the department has been concentrating on maintaining global standards in its teaching as well as research programmes. So far it has organized around two national seminars and five discussions which were very well received in academia and in media. Its teachers and research scholars are deeply interested in understating the social problems around them. The department is committed to give new directions to the teaching methods and research areas in the discipline. The department offers unique opportunities in the discipline as it is the only department of political science which offers courses in public policy and governance issues. Presently the department is offering Master’s Program in Political Science. It also offers Ph.D. program in Political Science. The department intends to introduce a Master’s Program in Public Policy and establish a Center for Asian Studies in the near future.

Objectives Of The Department

  • To promote research in the emerging areas of public policy, international relations, human rights;

  • To emphasize upon theorizing various political, economic and social problems and their interlinkages;

  • To make teaching in political science socially inclined and relevant in a multi cultural society like India’s;

  • To make its students well equipped in understanding various political issues and social challenges;

  • To provide a progressive, healthy and vibrant environment to its students as well as teachers for the purpose of developing an Indian way of studying political science.
