Academic tour to Jim Corbett National Park and Nainital (UT) for water quality analysis of Lake Ecosystem and biodiversity assessment
The students of Department of Environmental Science, visited Jim Corbett National Park and Nainital for water quality analysis of Lake Ecosystem and biodiversity assessment during 8th April to 13th April 2006 as a part of the academic curriculum. The trip was very useful for the students in getting a field-based knowledge of various dimensions of the course. The trip was organized by Prof. M. Yunus and Dr. Venkatesh Dutta, faculty members in the department.
SES celebrates National Science Day
The School for Environmental Sciences at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University organized a seminar on 28th February, 2007 on the occasion of National Science Day in the University Seminar Hall. The theme of the seminar was “Changing Environment & Energy Scenario: Agenda for Future”. Prof. M. S. Sodha, an eminent energy expert & Ex-Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University, Devi Ahilyabai University, Indore & Barkatullah University, Bhopal spoke on the subject. Dr. R K Singh, Head, Division of Toxicology, CDRI, Lucknow also delivered a lecture on environmental management. A BBC documentary on ‘State of the Planet – Biodiversity Loss’ was screened followed by discussions by department faculty members and students. The seminar was presided over by the Head of the Department, Prof R P Singh.

SES celebrates World Wildlife Conservation Week
The School of Environmental Sciences celebrated World Wildlife Conservation Week, held every year from 1 – 7th October, at the University premises on October 4, 2007. The event also coincides with the World Animal Day. A debate competition for postgraduate students was organized on the topic, “Are we heading towards ecological extinction”. Later two documentary films were shown on of conservation of north Indian tortoises and struggle of a dying river by Shailesh Kumar, Research Scholar and Dr. Venkatesh Dutta, faculty member at the department. On the occasion, renowned environmentalist and wildlife expert, Dr R L Singh emphasized on demands of development and growing conflicts between the natural resource management and socio-economically marginalized communities especially around the protected areas. He stressed on immediate conservation strategy for rapidly eroding biodiversity. The events witnessed participation from more than 100 students and faculty members.
A day long tour to Crocodile Breeding Centre, Kukrail and Zoological Park, Lucknow
A day-long trip was organized to Crocodile Breeding Centre, Kukrail and Zoological Park, Lucknow for the students of environmental sciences. Dr. Venkatesh Dutta and Mr. N K S More, faculty members accompanied the students and explained the finer details of ex-situ conservation.
