About Department

The Department of Library & Information Science (DLIS) established in 1997 with aim to provide LIS education to the students through effective teaching and practical training. The department is working with the vision to educate individuals for career as Librarians, Library Information Officers, Archivists, Information Scientist and Knowledge Managers. The students are trained to undertake instruction, research and service-oriented programmes that require current emerging information technological developments and market requirements. Presently the department is offering one year Bachelor of Library & Information Sciences (B. Lib. I. Sc.), one year Master of Library & Information Sciences (M. Lib. I. Sc), one year M. Phil. and three years Ph.D. courses in Library & Information Science. The department has dedicated and experienced faculty members who deliver latest LIS education to the students.

Study Tour : The students of M.L.I.Sc. Semester 2nd & 4th were taken out for study tour in the month of March 2007 at IIT Chennai Library, CLRI Library, Madras University Library etc. accompanied by the Dr. K.L.Mahawar, Head of the Deptt. and Ms.Shilpi Verma, Lecturer in the deptt.

Seminars : A Seminar on the topic “Towards Knowledge Society’ was organized on the occasion of Ambedkar Jyanti, 2003. Department organizes seminars and Group discussions with the students in the deptt. on regular basis to inculcate the research habits among them.

Faculty Members : The faculty members of the department are engaged in several other developmental activities of the University other than their routine work, viz., Dr. K. L. Mahawar, Head of the Deptt. working as Dean Student welfare (DSW) and Incharge-Placement cell of the University,Ms Shilpi Verma, Lecturer working as Sports Co-coordinator of the University, Mr. Ranjeet Kr. Choudhary, Lecturer working as active member of University Hindi Cell. Faculty members are having several research publications as well.

Extra Curricular Activities : Most of students have participated in Cultural Programme activities on 10th Jan 2008 Foundation Day Function of the University.
